How to Detect Keyloggers on Your Computer

How to Detect Keyloggers on Your Computer

In a world where huge amounts of information are held on computer systems, it is vital to be able to keep information as secure as possible. This can often be compromised when people find ways to hack into systems and steal confidential information.
One such way that this is often done is through the use of a keylogger, which is a piece of software that captures every letter typed on a computer keyboard and then sends it to a third-party, usually either by email or by storing the information on the computer itself for the hacker to collect later.
To stop this from happening to your system, the best way is to ensure that you have up-to-date antivirus software installed and update it regularly. Also, it is good idea to run a virus scan should you notice anything unusual with your system, for example if it is suddenly running at a slower rate than normal.
As most of us, being human, often forget to do this, it is a good idea to configure your anti-virus program to update automatically, preferably at least once a day, as this will provide the best protection from keyloggers and also from other types of viruses.
However, should the worst happen and your computer is compromised, this is what you should do to prevent the situation from getting any worse:
* Update your antivirus software
* Temporarily disconnect your computer from the Internet (and also your home network, i.e. your router)
* Run a full system scan on your machine, ensuring that it completes successfully.
* Reboot your system
* Check the processes list using Task Manager (press Control+Alt+Delete, open Task Manager and then click on the Processes tab) for anything that looks unusual.
* Check your firewall settings to ensure that your machine is properly secured.
* Change all passwords on your system
Once you have completed the above steps, you can then reconnect your computer to the Internet. You will then need to change passwords to any and all websites that you normally use as they may have been compromised.
The most important thing of all when changing passwords is to never use the same password on more than one website, as this would mean that a hacker would only have to get it once to have access to everything that you normally use online.
Finally, a good way to set multiple passwords that are easy to remember is to have a base password and then add some numbers or other characters which are unique to each site.

Free Malware Removal Software

Having our PC malfunctioning due to issues related with malware, is quite common. To get back the normal operation of your computer can cost you both in time and money. Below are presented a couple of applications that will allow you to remove the malware that has infected your PC, soon enough and without charges: MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and Microsoft Security Essentials.
* Note: The guidelines/software presented below will help you in most of the cases. We do not bring any responsibility for any damage that might be caused to your equipment.
** Note: Proceed with extreme caution. If you are not sure on how to proceed, it would be wise to make a backup copy of your data beforehand.
PAY ATTENTION TO:
  1. Microsoft Security Essentials requires that you have a legitimate copy of Microsoft Windows.
  2. Avoid installing two or more Antivirus applications on your computer. You can install these two applications though without any issues.
  3. When installing MalwareBytes Anti-malware, you will be presented with an option to install the MalwareBytes Anti-malware Pro version. This version of the product has the benefit of scanning in real-time your computer for malware. This is true for a specified amount of time though. After that, you will be asked to pay for the product. If you choose not to have real-time protection, the product will not expire and you will be able to download updates frequently. The downside of this case, is that you will have to manually scan your system for malware. The choice is yours to make.
  4. Update the database of both products before proceeding with a scan. This will give you a chance of detecting some malware that could not be detected with the old database version of the product.
  5. Make sure that you scan your system frequently, even if you do not suspect that there is something wrong with it.
There are several rules that you can follow in order to avoid having your computer infected with malware.
MALWARE REMOVAL:
We consider MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and Microsoft Security Essentials as reliable.
  • Microsoft Security Essentials - free to download from Microsoft.
  • MalwareBytes Anti-malware - free to download from MalwareBytes.
INSTALLATION and USE
  1. When the installation is completed, proceed with an update and then with a full scan on your system. Both applications will guide you on how to get that done.
  2. When the scanning procedure is completed you may be asked to restart your computer. Proceed with that step.
  3. If you keep having problems after that or if the use of the antivirus/anti-malware software is not possible, you will have to require the assistance of a professional.
